In partnership with Eagle Park Brewing! Brews and Books will usually meet at Eagle Park on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00pm. Grab a drink or a meal and discuss good books with new friends!
June's book is The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley. Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk in early May.
In The Ministry of Time, in the near future, the government is gathering “expats” from across history to see whether time travel is feasible. A civil servant is assigned to assist and monitor Commander Graham Gore, an expat that as far as history is concerned, died on a doomed 1845 Arctic expedition. As Gore adjusts to modern life, the two will form a deep connection and reckon with how what they’re doing can change the future.
July's book will be The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali. Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk in early June.
In The Lion Women of Tehran, in 1950s Tehran, seven-year-old Ellie lives in grand comfort until the death of her father, forcing Ellie and her mother to move to a tiny home downtown. On the first day of school, she meets Homa, a kind and passionate girl. Together, the two girls play games, learn to cook in Homa’s warm home, and wander through the colorful stalls of the Grand Bazaar. But their happiness is disrupted when Ellie and her mother get the opportunity to return to their previous life. Now a popular student at the best girls’ high school in Iran, Ellie’s memories of Homa begin to fade. Years later, however, her sudden reappearance in Ellie’s privileged world alters the course of both of their lives.
